All stories start somewhere. In the late Fall of 1992 the first incarnation of what would be CTRL was formed around the nucleus of Brad MacAllister (synths) and Joel Willard (vocals). From 1992 until early 1997 these two performed under various names, with changing line-ups and smattering of shows focused in the general area of central Pennsylvania (an area not known for cultural experimentalism). Some of the names that hung on the band during this time were Payphone (gothic punk band), Doomsday Conspiracy (Electro Metal), Crane (experimental noise), Evilsphere (guitar driven industrial dance), and last of all Fact87 (Gothic Industrial).

In the late Fall of 1997, Fact87 started recording the first demo for release in the United States (Basement Days). Unfortunately the studio, in which Fact87 was recording (9nthwave studios), was shut down before the album had been fully completed. Many of the master tapes were forever lost, never to be found, and most likely are in a dumpster somewhere. The tapes that were saved by Fact87 (by forcibly breaking and entering into the building) were unusable. After a string of disappointing shows, and dwindling funds, compounded with the loss of the master tapes, Fact87 decided to perform their last show in January 1998.
