Jurassic NightLife

Grab a drink and conjure up your childhood passion for dinosaurs this week with prehistoric specimens, pop culture, and art. Nineties classic Jurassic Park comes to Golden Gate Park, with a screening in the Academy’s east garden, and our neighboring institutions are in on the theme. At the Conservatory of Flowers’ sketch-o-saurus dino drawing station, create a prehistoric masterpiece inspired by their Plantosaurus Rex exhibit. Then watch the San Francisco Botanical Garden feed its carnivorous plants, and dissect your very own ancient plant whose lineage dates back to the age of the dinosaurs. Cartoonist Michael Capozolla will transform you into the dinosaur of your dreams, and Academy herpetologist David Blackburn will be on-hand with prehistoric specimens from our research collections, discussing fact and fiction behind the connection between dinosaurs and lizards. Plus, catch Dinosaurs Alive! in 3D, now showing in the Forum Theater. D33J of the WeDidIt Collective DJs in the coral reef, and dubstep artist Mochipet, who’s upcoming release is aptly named “Rawr Means I Love You,” takes the Piazza stage. You won’t miss him, he’s the guy in the Godzilla suit.
