The Matrix was originally opened in 1965 by Marty Balin as a place for his new band, Jefferson Airplane, to play. From that moment on, The Matrix showcased the biggest bands of the 60’s. In 1972 The Matrix closed its doors, but was revived as MatrixFillmore in 2001 with a plush and intimate vibe that instantly became a favorite nightspot for San Francisco locals and visitors.
